Olhanense optimistic

Good news for Olhanense fans is that manager Vasco Faísca will continue in charge next season. Vasco’s style of attacking play has been a refreshing change to the dour defensive formations favoured by previous managers.

With the majority of the squad having been signed in January on 18-month contracts, next season could be pivotal for the club that 10 years ago gained promotion to the Primeira Liga.

Come August, the Campeonato de Portugal, the third level of Portuguese football, will feature four Algarve teams: SC Olhanense, Armacenenses, Louletano and Esp.Lagos who edged out Moncarapachense in the final game of the Algarve Championship. The team from Moncarapacho had to win but could only draw 0-0.

The group of Italian investors who took control of the Olhanense SAD (limited liability sports club owning 80% of the capital) towards the end of last year have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen the squad and make a major push for promotion.

Olhanense central defender Zach Muscat, on loan from Italian club Pistoiese, has been called into the Malta main squad for their UEFA Euro2020 qualifiers against Sweden and Romania this month.
