Olhanense: New signings keen to impress

Olhanense manager Vasco Faísca and his assistant Flávio Soares have been putting the squad through their paces as they prepare for a serious assault on the Campeonato Portugal Division D, the third level of Portuguese football.

Exactly ten years ago, the club was preparing for life in the Primeira Liga under former international Jorge Costa and it was one of the players signed by the former Porto captain that has returned to the club.

South African born U21 international Joshua Silva has played in Poland, Norway and Germany for the past five years. The attack minded full-back is equally at home in the centre of the defence.

Another new addition is Quarteirense born Rafael Floro who has spent time at Sporting, Académica de Coimbra, Louletano, Inter de Almancil and FC Porto. The former Portugal U20 international also had two years in England with Sheffield Wednesday.

Patrick Igwe becomes the third Nigerian to join Olhanense following in the footsteps of Adewale Sapara and Sunday Akoh. The highly rated 22 year-old winger has previously made sixty-six appearances and scored thirteen goals in the Campeonato Portugal.

Pre-season friendlies
Olhanense entertain SC Portimonense U23 team at the José Arcanjo Stadium, Olhão (behind McDonalds on the EN125) on Saturday, kick-off at 5.00pm with free admission. Further games are scheduled at Armação de Pêra on Tuesday, August 6 and four days later at Cartaya in Spain.
