Olhanense mauled by the Lions

Even before the game against Sporting B, the Olhão-based side had resigned itself to life in non-league football next season. So it was that coach Bruno Saraiva introduced three juniors to the squad for a trip to the world-famous Sporting Academy at Alcochete where the likes of Figo, Cristiano Ronaldo and Eric Dier had honed their skills.

It was another rising talent, Gelson Dala, who put Olhanense to the sword as he scored twice in the opening nine minutes. The 20-year-old Angolan international completed his hat-trick on the stroke of half-time.

Olhanense had little resistance to offer a young and skilful Sporting side who made it 4-0 12 minutes after the break through Pedro Delgado. Sixty seconds later and that man Gelson popped up to make it five. In the final minute of the game, the visitors netted a consolation goal through Georgian U20 international Chanturia. This was Sporting’s sixth consecutive victory and Olhanense’s 23rd defeat in 34 league games.

Académico de Viseu head south
On Sunday, Olhanense entertain Ac Viseu at the José Arcanjo Stadium, Olhão – kick-off 4pm. The visitors are just two points above the drop zone and will prove tough opposition for Olhanense who could be relegated if they lose and other results go against them.

Louletano and Farense go head-to-head
In the Campeonato de Portugal (promotion South), where the top team will be promoted to the Segunda Liga, it was a hard-fought battle between local rivals Louletano and SC Farense with the honours being shared in the 2-2 draw.

After eight games in the eight-team league, Fátima lead the way with 16 points. Farense are in fifth place on 10 points and Louletano languish one off the bottom on seven points.
