Olhanense manager praises expat fans at presentation dinner

Fifty guests enjoyed a sparkling evening at Restaurant Fonte Nova, Pechão, when the Olhanense Expats Group presented a cheque for €1,000 to Sporting Clube Olhanense for youth sport development.

The money was raised from the sale of match day programmes and commemorative badges, together with the proceeds of a Christmas Raffle.

Marco Couto, Director of Football, together with players Vinicius, Jardel, Lulinha and Jorge Vale mingled with the guests.

This was the first time the footballers had seen Christmas crackers and they were highly amused and fascinated by the ritual!

A surprise visit by manager Daúto Faquirà was the highlight of the evening. The manager said: “We as a club are very honoured and privileged to have the support of such a dedicated group of fans. Thank you for your continuing support, both on-and-off the field, which is very much appreciated.”

Olhanense presented the group with a signed football, signed shirt and framed embroidered badge. The football was raffled and won by Alyssa Janssens-Thennis.

Brian Caldwell proposed the toast to HRH Queen Elizabeth II and the President of Portugal while Emily Richardson led a tribute to the club.

Following the meal, a few football songs kept the gathering in high spirits before Paul Nicholson closed the evening by thanking the restaurant staff and organisers for a great evening.
