Olhanense injuries mount

By CHRIS WRIGHT

Riding high in the Sagres Zon Liga behind FC Porto and Benfica is taking its toll on Olhanense’s compact squad.

Fernando Alexandre, Nuno Piloto and Bruno Veríssimo are already sidelined and a cruciate ligament injury to Delson is a serious blow.

The influential Brazilian midfielder had an operation on his right knee in Lisbon last week and will be out of action for six months.

Cadu, who made his full debut in the 3-1 win over V.Setúbal, suffered a broken nose but may be fit for the crucial clash away at Sporting Braga next weekend.

Clecio, of whom much was expected, has had his contract terminated. The 22 year-old, who had played all his football in Brazil, could not play until January when FIFA ruled that his loan transfer would be accepted.

He was recently subject to internal disciplinary proceedings. President Isidoro Sousa intends to strengthen the squad in the January transfer window and the club is tracking 22 year-old Evora youth player Sebastian.

On Sunday, Olhanense play 2nd Division (Central) team Sertanense away in the 3rd Round of the Portugal Cup.

The next home game at the Josí Arcanjo Stadium is on Sunday October 31, kick-off 4pm when Marítimo (Madeira) are the visitors.
