In the final round of games in the Campeonato de Portugal, SC Olhanense thrashed Moura 5-1 away to record their fourth consecutive win with a goal tally of 18 for and just one against. Unfortunately, it was not enough to secure a place in the play-offs with Casa Pia (Lisbon) taking second place behind Division D champions SC Praiense (Azores).
Amazingly, Casa Pia were reinstated the six points lost earlier in the season for having an unqualified coach in charge and they were also awarded the points for the game abandoned at Olhão a few weeks ago. SC Ideal, who would have taken second place had Casa Pia’s points deduction stood, issued a strongly worded statement aimed at the Portuguese Football Federation and the Arbitration Court of Sport, about justice in sport.
Olhanense proved too strong for Moura with goals from Stevy Okitokandjo (7′ penalty), Caleb (24′) and Leleco (52′) before Igwe (68′) pulled a goal back for Moura. Centre-forward Rodríguez (75′) and substitute Fábio (80′) completed the team’s third five goal haul in four games.
With the majority of the squad having been signed in January on 18-month contracts, next season could be pivotal for the club that 10 years ago gained promotion to the Primeira Liga. Next season, the Portuguese Championship will feature four Algarve teams: SC Olhanense, Armacenenses, Louletano and the winner of the 1st District Division, which will be decided on Saturday when Moncarapachense entertain Esp.Lagos at the Municipal Stadium of Moncarapacho – kick-off 5pm.
