A third successive defeat for Olhanense has pushed them ever closer to automatic relegation as they remain bottom of the Segunda Liga with just 13 points; some 12 points from safety.
With the bottom four teams going down and the two above them having to play-off, it will take a super human effort to stay up.
Penafiel totally outclassed their Algarve opponents who were missing five regulars through injuries and the Africa Cup of Nations. Fábio Fortes opened the scoring for the home side after 11 minutes and Wellington added a second 10 minutes before the interval.
Ten minutes after the break, Galassi had a chance to pull a goal back but miscued his shot. That effort aside, it was all Penafiel who made it three midway through the second-half when Rafa Sousa headed past keeper Leo.
To add to the visitors’ woe, four minutes later Olhanense substitute Redolfi diverted Gonçalo Abreu’s free-kick into his own net.
Fans will be hoping for a marked improvement as the team travel to Coimbra to play Académica on Thursday, January 12 at 8.30pm with the game being broadcast live on SportTV.
Olhanense’s next home game at the José Arcanjo Stadium, Olhão is against FC Famalicão on Sunday, January 22, kick-off 3pm.
