Olhanense hang on for a draw

The long journey north to third-placed Chaves, just 10 kilometres south of the Spanish border, was a daunting prospect. Four key players were missing: captain Semedo and Rodrigo, suspended for amassing five yellow cards, whilst Gonzalez Prado and Weldon were out through injury.
Regula and Giraldo returned to the starting line-up. In a very even first-half of few opportunities it was the visitors who took the lead after 15 minutes. Buval was fouled in the box and Regula calmly slotted home the resulting penalty for his sixth goal of the season.
In the second period, Olhanense took the game to Chaves but, against the run-of-play, the home side levelled matters through Arnold on the hour mark.
In the closing minutes, the woodwork saved Olhanense as first João Vieira and then substitute Barry hit the bar – a valuable away point that keeps the Algarve side clear of the relegation zone.
On Sunday Olhanense entertain Académico de Viseu at the José Arcanjo Stadium, Olhão (behind McDonalds on the EN125) – kick-off 3pm.
