While many fans are still basking in the euphoria of their team’s promotion to Liga Sagres, the club is busy ensuring that the sporting facilities are ready for the new season in mid August.

Renovation works have commenced to extend the capacity to 12,000, with the possibility of temporary stands adding another 3,000 spectators for the big games against Benfica, Sporting and Porto.

Mayor Francisco Leal has unveiled a 900,000 euro investment package which could help to generate an additional 1.5 million euros income for the local economy.

He added that it was “completely out of the question” to use the Algarve Stadium, thus ensuring that the club remains at the heart of the local community.

Olhão celebrates its local holiday on Tuesday and club President Isidoro Sousa will receive the prestigious Gold Medal of Merit in recognition of his services to the city and municipality. The club now has 4,615 members and anticipates reaching its target of 5,000 within the next few days.
