Olhanense come unstuck

by CHRIS WRIGHT

Olhanense knew that a win against P. Ferreira would guarantee Premier League in Olhão next season.

The home team were smartly out of the starting blocks and Wilson Eduardo had a header well saved by Cassio after just two minutes.  Five minutes later, and Wilson Eduardo returned the favour when he cut the ball back for Salvador Agra to hammer home from fifteen metres.

It was all Olhanense at this stage but Paços de Ferreira fought their back into the game and midway through the half pulled level.

Vasco Fernandes failed to cut out Melgarejo’s through ball and Portugal U21 international Caetano outpaced André Pinto to slip the ball past Fabiano Freitas and level the score.

With half-time fast approaching, Vasco Fernandes cross was headed narrowly wide by Dady. Minutes into the second period and the visitors took the lead when former Olhanense player Javier Cohene headed home Vitor Silva’s cross while on his knees! Definitely an error by the normally reliable custodian Fabiano Freitas.

Olhanense had more possession and opportunities to score through Wilson Eduardo, Dady and Mateus but there was a feeling that this was not going to be their day and so it proved to be.

With only three home wins, all season manager Sérgio Conceição is already looking to major influx of new players for next season.

Under 21 international Salvador Agra will be on his way to Real Betis (Seville) while goalkeeper Fabiano Freitas is attracting attention from top clubs in Spain, Germany and Russia. The 24 year-old Brazilian, who has two years of his contract remaining, is valued at €1 million. There are no league games this weekend as it is the League Cup Final between Benfica and Gil Vicente tomorrow (Saturday) 8.15pm live on TV.
