Whilst their neighbours Moncarapachense were celebrating promotion, Olhanense were recording their first victory in 12 games as they beat Sertanense 2-1 at the José Arcanjo Stadium.
Even that was hard work after conceding the opening goal after just two minutes. Second-half strikes by Leandro (60’) and Jair (80’) secured all three points to bring to an end a truly disappointing season that had promised so much at the turn of the year.
At least one more season in the Campeonato de Portugal awaits the Olhão outfit. A General Meeting of the club members will decide on the way forward. Whether the Italian investors, who owns 80% of the professional senior squad, will continue to be involved is an issue that is much on the minds of the many supporters who remember those halcyon days, just 10 years ago, when Olhanense finished eighth in the Primeira Liga.
