Portugal’s environmental agency (APA) is reviewing an environmental impact study, currently under public consultation, for the construction of an oil refinery in Badajoz, which will discharge effluents into a tributary of the Guadiana River.
APA is taking the action to ensure the Algarve will not be affected by possible accidents at the refinery or the port at Huelva.Once open, the Balboa refinery is predicted to produce 110,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
