A MEMBER of the GNR in Valença, northern Portugal, was fined for smoking a cigarette in the bar area of a petrol station last week.
According to witnesses, he lit a cigarette in full view of the no smoking signs and after they notified staff, who asked him to extinguish it, he refused. Staff were forced to call a patrol unit and when the officers arrived, witnesses said they heard the smoker say that if the head of ASAE can smoke then so could he. The officer was fined and a disciplinary procedure has been brought against him.
