An off-duty PSP officer was violently attacked when he attempted to tackle a mugger in Portimão.
The man was out of uniform, but didn’t think twice when he heard screams coming from an apartment block.
He got to the scene just in time to see a man, described as “very large”, making off with a woman’s bag.
The mugger ignored calls to stop – despite the officer saying he was a policeman – and instead lashed out with a powerful blow.
Luckily, officers called in from nearby managed to catch the robber, and he is now facing charges.
The bag and all its contents have been returned to the owner.
