Odemira prisoners to work this summer as street cleaners

A protocol was signed this week signalling the way ahead for prisoners to work ‘on the outside’, cleaning streets and undertaking general maintenance duties. The idea, spearheaded by Odemira council in collaboration with the Prison Services board, is due to start this summer, and will be effective during the hours of 8am and 4pm. It is not certain yet how many prisoners will be involved.

According to reports, the agreement is for a year, to be “automatically renewed for equal and successive periods”.
