The Portuguese government has given the go-ahead for the construction of three hotels and a camp site in Monchique and Silves councils near the Odelouca dam, which is due to be completed by the end of 2010.
One of the hotels, to be built in the parish of Alferce, Monchique, will be either four or five star and will be limited to two storeys and 120 beds.
In Foz do Carvalho, also in Monchique, there is authorisation for the construction of a rural hotel with a maximum of two storeys and 60 beds.
Silves council is also authorised to have a tourist development, with the same characteristics, in the Monte Branco area.
In the area surrounding the Odelouca dam, there will also be a 5,000sqm camp site with the capacity for 90 visitors.
Monchique Câmara President Carlos Tuta said that he is satisfied with the development plan, which “opens the doors for more private investment and the creation of more jobs in the council”.
