Greek reprieve
FIFA HAVE lifted their suspension of the Hellenic Football Federation, following a parliamentary amendment to sports related legislation, which would have seen the Greek government take too big a part in the running of the domestic game. The change of mind means that Greek clubs will be eligible for European competitions and, that next month’s Old Trafford friendly against England, can go ahead.

THE FIRST official Fifa rankings, since the World Cup finals, see Italy leap from 13th into second place behind Brazil, who remain on top. Argentina and France have both improved into third and fourth, while England have risen from 10th into fifth position. Portugal are now ranked eighth, one place ahead of Germany.
