Octopus is king at Quarteira’s ‘Semana do Polvo’

If you love octopus, Quarteira will be the place to be from September 10 to 17 as the coastal town is hosting the ‘Semana do Polvo’ (Octopus Week).

If you’re simply interested in enjoying an octopus meal, 28 local restaurants will be preparing their own especially for the event, including favourites like ‘Arroz de Polvo’ (octopus rice), ‘Polvo à Lagareiro’ (Lagareiro-style octopus) and ‘Cataplana de Polvo’.

Learning how to make sushi and how to cook Mediterranean-style is another possibility, as two workshops will be held on Saturday, September 10 and Sunday, September 11.

There will also be an octopus recipe competition, so if you have one that you feel is a winner, now is the time to put it to test.

Those interested in taking part in the competition and workshops should sign up before Thursday, September 8 at Quarteira’s parish council, at the HQ of Armalgarve Polvo or via email: a[email protected] or [email protected]

Signing up for the workshop costs €25.

There will also be a free showcooking octopus event on the final day of the event, taking place near the local market.

The list of restaurants taking part in the event can be found online at http://aeqv.pt/filez/2016/08/lista-restaurantes-site-final-c-logo.pdf
