Octogenarian relatives die in separate accidents on same road “within hours”

The little community of Alburitel (Ourém) was in shock this week after two elderly residents, connected by marriage, died on the same road on the same day, within two hours of each other.

The first was involved in an accident on Tuesday afternoon with a car while he was driving his tractor, explains national tabloid Correio da Manhã.

The impact “projected” the victim onto the road, killing him instantly.

Almost two hours later to the minute, the second man, aged 82, was killed 300 metres from the scene of the first accident.

The OAP was apparently walking along the EN113 when he was hit by a car. There appear to have been no witnesses and the driver on Wednesday morning was described as “still at large”.

Police are not even sure what kind of vehicle they are looking for, said CM.

As the bodies of the two men have been taken to the Office of Legal Medicine for autopsy, GNR agents are described as “on the ground trying to discover the identity of the hit-and-run driver”.

The EN113 was also closed for several hours to allow forensic investigation.
