The Oceânico Group will stage the 14th Grand Trophy Vilamoura between December 7 and 10.
The action at one of the leading amateur tournaments in Portugal since 1987 will get under way on Thursday, December 8 utilising the top championship Oceânico Victoria, Millennium and Old courses.
The event has proven to be such a success over the past 24 years that Oceânico is hosting an additional but separate competition which is also already celebrating its third successive edition, the Grand Trophy Amendoeira.
Equally open to amateurs, this tournament is held at the earlier dates of December 1 to 3 and will grace the Amendoeira Resort’s popular Faldo and O’Connor Jnr. courses near Silves.
Further afield, Algarve golfing brothers Ricardo and Hugo Santos, recently winner and runner-up at the national championships, are representing Portugal at the Omega Mission Hills team World Cup in China which teed off yesterday (Thursday).
The pair are hoping to better this country’s best ever 13th place finish in the prestigious tournament achieved by Ricardo himself when partnering Tiago Cruz in 2008. Coincidentally, one of Portugal’s main rivals are expected to be fellow siblings and defending champions Francesco and Edoardo Molinari playing for Italy, although Irish duo Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell as well as England’s Justin Rose and Ian Poulter along with the German, Spanish and South African pairings pose serious threats to Portuguese title ambitions.
