Oceânico Bowls Masters Portugal 2011

Amendoeira once again hosted the Oceânico Bowls Masters Portugal between October 8 and October 15, which saw the return of the Taylor Bowls trophy and the random pairs competition.

Both games had a full day of round robins to produce the top 16 singles and double winners who then went on to a knockout competition.

The singles Taylor Bowls trophy was won by 25-year old Ross Dunkley, who beat Jack Hargreaves by just one point.

Ross, a member of the Selly Park Crown Green Bowling Club from Birmingham in the UK, has won a holiday for two people with Oceânico.

In the random pairs competition it was 18-year old Dave Ferris from Congleton Park Crown Green Bowling Club in the Potteries who was teamed with Jack Dyson of the Netherton Conservative Crown Green  Bowling Club in Huddersfield who won the final by 11 points to nine.

The next competition was the masters, which moved from a round robin to a final 16 knockout stage with novice fringe bowlers giving invited champions a nerve racking game to qualify.

Some champions fell out at this stage, including the winner of the masters in 2009 and 2010, Gary Ellis who lost in the semi final.

The final winner of the masters was Colin Beaman who beat Simon Coupe by 21 to 20.

Colin Beaman returned to his home club of Meole Brace bowling club in Shrewsbury with his winnings of €2,000.
