Óbidos sweet festival

CHOCOLATE LOVERS still have time to visit the Sixth International Chocolate Festival being held until Sunday in Óbidos, north of Lisbon.

Portuguese Tourism Secretary of State, Bernardo Trindade, presided over the opening ceremonies of the festival on Valentine’s Day.

Many activities and competitions have been held since then in what is already one of the most important cultural and gastronomic events in the west coast of Portugal, with an estimated 200,000 visitors this year.

Tickets are priced at only five euros and children under 12-years-old enter for free.

Today (Friday), the programme includes a special Chocolate Fashion event within the castle walls from 9pm, in which models will be wearing suits made from chocolate.

A Chocolate House is also in place for the younger visitors. Tickets cost four euros and children will be able to do face painting, play games and participate in many other activities, including making their own chocolate delights with the help of a professional.

The festival opens today at 3pm and closes at midnight. Tomorrow (Saturday), it will be open from 10am to midnight and doors close at 8pm on Sunday.
