A much-needed nursing home is being built in the Alcoutim council, costing more than €1.9 million.
The home, which is located in Balurcos, represents a dream for the many elderly on the waiting list for the Alcoutim home.
Hoping to respond to demand for an old people’s home in the council, Alcoutim Mayor Francisco Amaral said the Lar de Balurcos aimed to provide support to the aged, particularly in an area reporting the most cases of elderly people living alone, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
He said: “A home support network for the elderly is also urgently needed in the council.”
