Sindepor, the syndicate of Portuguese nurses, has joined the variety of public sector workers declaring industrial action or all-out strikes for the days in which the capital will be overflowing with pilgrims from all over the world for World Youth Day. Like doctors, who will also be striking, Sindepor president Carlos Ramalho, says the union feels it has no alternative “faced with the immobilism of the Ministry of Health (…) A new minister arrived, an executive direction of the SNS health service was created, every day there are public declarations by both men responsible«, but the truth is that the SNS is continuing to deteriorate, as all professionals and the Portuguese public in general feel”, said Sindepor’s strike notice.
