Number of unemployed couples rises

There were 7,940 unemployed couples among the 609,273 jobless people registered at Portuguese Job Centres in May, a year-on-year increase of 81%, according to the figures released last week by the Employment and Professional Training Institute (Instituto do Emprego e Formação Profissional). The number of couples in which both spouses are unemployed has increased by 3,554 couples compared to May last year, and by 63 couples from the month of April.
