THE PORTUGUESE PGA is organising a new, exciting men’s golf competition, The Algarve Cup, at Pinheiros Altos in Almancil, on Saturday, February 11.
This is a team competition for the new cup, with two teams – Portugal versus The Rest of the World. Proceeds from the competition will be donated to Cancer Research.
Only 50 euros to enter
Entry into the cup is available to professionals and amateurs with a valid handicap of 18 or less. Entry into the cup is just 50 euros, which includes lunch after the match and free entry into The PGA Algarve putting competition at the Golf Academy in Vilamoura which will take place after the lunch.
Everyone starts at the same time
The format of the cup will be match play in two teams of two, starting simultaneously on each hole in the shotgun format. As well as The Algarve Cup, there will be additional prizes to be won on various holes.
Entry closes on February 7
The competition is open to 88 players, 44 on each team. Team members will be selected on a first come first served basis and February 7 is the closing date for entry into the competition.
Team and putting competition
The result will be decided on a similar basis to the Ryder Cup with one point awarded to each winning team of two and one point to each team for a tie.
