FRIENDS OF São Brás Museum have an action-packed programme for November. For those who like to dance, there is the regular belly dancing class with Jeanette Elliott on Mondays, 5pm to 7pm, and salsa class with Richard and Carmen Hoke on Tuesdays, 7pm to 9pm, and Sundays, 11am to 1pm. A series of monthly dances (free entrance) starts on Saturday, November 19 (4pm to 8pm). This first session will be salsa. The next dance will be on Saturday, December 17 (8pm to midnight) and will feature the Brazilian dance Forró.
For theatre lovers, A Portada company will be performing the Neil Simon play Visitors from London on Friday, November 18, at 8pm. Tickets cost eight euros.
For people wanting to start their Christmas shopping – or sample mulled wine and German pastries – there will be a German style Christmas market from noon until 6pm on Saturday, November 26.
For the physically and mentally active, there is a regular keep fit class with Terry Reed on Mondays from 10.30am to noon, T´ai Chi with Chris Vardy on Wednesdays, from 5.30pm to 7pm, and this month sees the start of yoga classes with Sally Rich on Fridays, from 4pm to 6pm. On Tuesdays, from 2.30pm to 6pm, you can enjoy an afternoon of informal pairs bridge.
For those interested in art, literature and history, there is a cultural talk by Emanuel Sancho, director of the museum, on the legendary clothing of the Algarve on Wednesday, November 30, at 7pm; an historical talk by Dr. Afonso Cunha about his book São Brás de Alportel: Time and Memory on Friday, November 25, at 11am; a literary talk by Lesley Brain on the life and works of John Ruskin on Saturday, November 19, at 2pm, and an art exhibition preview on Saturday, November 26, from 4pm to 7pm, which will feature Peter Kain´s ‘Out of Africa’ photographs as well as African music and dance.
