Notaries and registry office IT blackout blamed on obsolete system

Today’s ‘IT blackout’ at IRN (notaries and registry) offices up and down the country has come as no surprise to the staff affected. Anyone who has had occasion recently to visit one of these premises will almost certainly have heard them complaining about their centralised ‘system’; how slow it is; how it insists on printing important documents upside down, etc etc. Today’s ‘total blackout’ was only to be expected, Arménio Maximino of the syndicate of notaries and registrars has told Rádio Renascença. It is a “lamentable situation” that all higher authorities have been warned about. “The sector needs investment”, insists Maximino. “Words need to pass to actions in respect of digital transition”. But in the meantime, the country’s ‘conservatorias’ today are hamstrung/ ‘offline’… and it appears the IT blackout has affected the court system and the Public Ministry. UPDATE: system restored, just in time for all offices concerned to close their doors for the day…
