Next month, Norwegian pianist Anne Kaasa will present two concerts for the Amigos de Música at Os Agostos country estate, near Santa Bárbara de Nexe.
On Tuesday, April 18, she will give a piano solo recital intitled “With dancing steps from Liszt to Piazzolla”, including works by Bartók, Prokofiev, Enrique Granados, Manuel de Falla, Chopin, Ravel and Astor Piazzolla.
On Thursday, April 20, Anne Kaasa will be joined by Maria José Falcão, cello, and Esther Georgie, clarinet, as a trio for “An evening with Brahms”.
Pianist Anne Kaasa, who lives in Lisbon, has been described by the French musical magazine Le Monde de la Musique as “a pianist that stands out in the crowded world of soloists by the depth of her interpretations, the fluidity of her playing, as well as the precision and the delicacy of her touch”.
Her activity as a soloist has brought her to play at prestigious venues like Wigmore Hall (London), Gulbenkian Foundation (Lisbon), Auditório Nacional (Madrid), Romanian Athenaeum (Bucharest) and Sheremetev Palace (St. Petersburg) among others and in many international music festivals.
Cellist Maria José Falcão has performed in numerous concerts in Portugal and abroad, and appeared in many festivals, including in Algarve, Sintra, Funchal and Macau. She collaborates regularly with the Portuguese radio for classical music, Antena 2, and has recorded the ‘Cello Concerto of Fernando Lopes-Graça’ with the National Symphony Orchestra of Budapest.
Clarinettist Esther Georgie was born in Michigan, USA. At the age of 12, she moved to England to pursue her piano and clarinet studies at the Royal College of Music in London. She won the International Young Concert Artists Competition and the Young Artists’ Platform in London. These successes enabled her to give recitals at the Wigmore Hall, the Fairfield Halls, Leighton House and the BBC.
She is a founding member of the Bartikian Trio and, more recently, is a member of a wind quintet made up of soloists from the Gulbenkian Orchestra. She also plays regularly in duet with clarinettist João Pedro Santos. Mervyn Cooke, Ivan Moody and Diogo Alvim have all dedicated new works to her.
Amigos de Música concerts at Os Agostos begin at 7pm. Doors open at 6pm and wine, fruit juices and canapés will be served. There will also be a short interval. Entry donation, including refreshments, is €30 per person for guests and non-members, payable in advance by bank transfer (see website www.amigosdemusica.org).
The Amigos de Música is an international group of around 120 members who stage musical activities by internationally renowned musicians and also sponsor young Portuguese musicians. It is a non-profit organisation which celebrated its 30th anniversary last year.
