Nordic society visits winery

news: Nordic society visits winery

A total of 36 women from the Nordic Society Frejorna started off their 2013 calendar with a tour of the Adega do Cantor winery and vineyard in Quinta do Miradouro, Guia.

In a sunny day and overlooking stunning views of the surrounding vineyards and coastline, the group was welcomed by customer liaison officer Christina Larsen and guide Geni Barros.

Geni spoke about the history behind the winery, how singer Sir Cliff Richard started it in 1997 and was later assisted by his partner Nigel Birch, owner of Quinta do Miradouro, one of the three vineyards at the site.

She explained the work that is involved with the vineyards and winery, how all grapes are handpicked and that all wines are vinified, matured and bottled at the estate.

After the interesting tour, including a wine tasting of a selection of Sir Cliff Richard’s Vida Nova wines, a typical Portuguese lunch was enjoyed at Restaurante Atlântico in Guia.

Adega do Cantor is open to visitors from Monday to Friday.

About the society

Although few people know of its existence, the Nordic Society Frejorna is not new. It was started many years ago by, and for, Nordic women living permanently in the Algarve, or staying long periods during the autumn and winter months to enjoy the weather, people and culture.

Since the late seventies, a considerable number of Nordic people moved to Portugal to either work or to retire. The Society is delighted to report that in the last two years it has grown significantly.

The society aims to provide its members with an opportunity to make new friends while learning about Portugal and the Algarve region by organising various activities together.
