A poor game between P.Ferreira and Olhanense ended with a 1-0 victory for the home side. Olhanense, without a league win since early October, have now slipped to ninth in the Premier Liga.
It’s very tight in mid-table and whilst the Algarve’s top team are only four points off a place in Europe, they are only three points away from the lower reaches of the league.
Manager Daúto Faquirá started the game against P.Ferreira with centre-forward Yontcha ploughing a lone furrow up front and it nearly paid dividends in the sixth minute.
Jorge Gonçalves’ centre was only millimetres away from the Yontcha’s head with the keeper well beaten.
The home side took the lead midway through the first-half with the only quality moment of the match. André Leão picked up the ball some 30 metres out and his thunderbolt shot gave Moretto no chance.
In the second-half the visitors took off Vinicius, Yontcha and central defender Mauricio to be replaced by Lulinha, Toy and Djalmir.
The new formation pressed hard and had more of the play but could not penetrate the home defences.
Olhanense defender Fernando Alexandre said after the game, “It is difficult to return home after this defeat because we felt we were the better team and did sufficient to win.”
