British pop star Sting, formerly with the hit band The Police, has donated one of his bass guitars to a music programme aimed at giving school children in London the chance to learn how to play an instrument.

The scheme, known as No Strings Attached was created by new London Mayor Boris Johnson in conjunction with TimeOut magazine. Instruments donated by members of the public, as well as those found on tube trains and buses in the city have all been given to the programme.

“Music should be available to every child, not just the privileged few whose parents can afford to buy instruments”, said cellist Julian Lloyd Webber.
