Sea searches resumed today (Wednesday) for the German tourist swept away from a beach in Madeira on Sunday.
The 63-year-old man had been taking photographs on Achada da Cruz beach, when a huge wave pulled him into the sea away from his horrified companion.
On Tuesday, maritime authorities had to scale back their efforts as conditions worsened, but by Wednesday the sea was calm enough to start out again.
Félix Marques, of Funchal ports authority, said three boats were out looking while rescue services were also scanning the shoreline.
Hopes of finding the man alive are non-existent. “We are looking for a body,” Marques told Lusa news agency.
