Portugal’s independent doctors’ union (SIM) revealed in the early hours of this morning that doctors and the government had not reached an agreement on salary increases, but had consolidated the progress made in negotiations on other issues, such as holidays and working hours in accident and emergency departments. At the end of a new round of negotiations which last night, the leader of the SIM, Jorge Roque da Cunha, guaranteed “there is a great desire to reach an agreement” on salary issues.
