Nine Portuguese wines among “100 Best Buys of 2015”

Nine Portuguese wines have been featured in the ‘Top 100 Best Buys of 2015’ list published by US Wine Enthusiast magazine. Two of them even made the top 10.

This means Portugal was the fourth country with most wines on the list, beaten only by the US (30), France (13) and Italy (10).

Quinta da Aveleda – which last year topped the list with its Aveleda 2013 Vinho Verde – came in third this year with the Aveleda 2014 produced in Penafiel.

The red Pedra Cancela Seleção do Énologo 2010, produced in Dão by João Paulo Gouveia, also placed in the top-10, was named the seventh best buy.

As the magazine points out, “all of the wines included in the feature have a suggested retail price of $15 or less and have been awarded our prestigious Best Buy qualification, meaning they possess an excellent bang-for-your-buck ratio”.

Other Portuguese wines that made the top-100 are the red Morgado da Canita 2012 in the Alentejo (12th), the red Q do E-Quinta do Encontro-Bairrada 2012 (21st), the white Bridão Clássico Fernão Pires do Tejo 2014 (27th), the red Reserva do Monte Lisboa 2012 (30th), Herdade de São Miguel Alicante Bouschet in the Alentejo (40th), the red Aluado Alicant Bouschet Lisboa (74th) and the red Rosa Douro (81st).
