Nike Shoot Out returns to Boavista for another successful tournament

Once again, Boavista Golf Resort, near Lagos, hosted the prestigious Nike Shoot Out tournament on July 9. The challenging competition is popular with members and this year it attracted a field of 84 players.

On one of the hottest days of the year, some of the winning scores equalled the air temperature, with Clive Hastie and Ian Bond winning the 1st Gross with 34 points. First Nett went to Derek Weekes and Terry German with 45 points, followed by Chris Knell and Phil Turner with 44 points (back 9 – 21 pts). In third Nett place was Nick Daly and Sophie Leroy also with 44 points (back 9 – 20 pts).

Janice Galloway won the prize for ‘nearest the pin’ on the 11th hole, the men’s ‘longest drive’ went to Phil Byron on the 13th and the ladies ‘longest drive’ went to Tracey Ford also on the 13th hole.

Generous prizes were donated by Nike but the most coveted was in the category of ‘best dressed’ golfer. The winners were Kath Sells and Raman Bhasin.

A barbecue lunch and refreshments were served in the clubhouse restaurant after the tournament.

Meanwhile, Boavista will stage its first Summer Fest on August 13. From 3pm, guests can listen to “sensational music, participate in a variety of sporting activities and savour delicious food – all to be enjoyed in a relaxed environment”, say the organisers.

The event will feature music by DJ Soul Beat, DJ Just and the sound of reggae by JahLita Friends. Zumba and aqua-football are some of the activities on offer.
