‘Nights at the Pier’ bring live music to Lagos

Concerts will take place at Cais das Descobertas

Lagos is preparing to host another edition of ‘Nights at the Pier’, a summer music festival which will take place on September 1 and 2.

Two concerts are planned with the historic walls of Lagos and the Cais das Descobertas (Discoveries Pier) providing the backdrop.

Portugal’s traditional Fado music will be blended with contemporary dance on Friday, September 1, when the Quorum Ballet company will take the stage with its ‘Correr o Fado’ show.

According to organisers, the show “breaks away from the traditional way of seeing, hearing, and feeling the genre, demystifying its nostalgic and melancholic connotations.”

“Through the talent of the well-known Quorum Ballet company, this performance is a true celebration of the genre’s greatest hits, full of soul, interpreted through dance,” they add.

The second concert will feature Maro, a Portuguese singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer who won the ‘Festival da Canção’ (which selects who will represent Portugal at the Eurovising Song Contest) in 2022.

Accompanied by the Catalan guitarists Darío Barroso and Pau Figueres, with whom she recorded her new album ‘hortelã’, Maro will reveal “an intimate and vulnerable side” to herself, “marking a new chapter in her career.”

Created in 2020 during the pandemic crisis, ‘Noites no Cais’ was such as success that the local council quickly realised that it was an event worth keeping.

“Set in a relaxed atmosphere, illuminated by original light displays on the walls that grace the historic Cais das Descobertas, several artists have already graced this stage, contributing to enriching the cultural offerings in Lagos,” the council says.

Tickets are priced at €5 per show, with a special pass available for both days at €8, and can be purchased online, at Fnac and Worten stores, or at the venue from 5pm onwards. Both shows begin at 9.30pm.
