SIX BEACHES in the Algarve are to have solar powered lights installed at a cost of 200,000 euros.
Coelha, Castelo, Manuel Lourenço, Meia Praia, Ponta da Piedade and Algar Seco have all been chosen to be part of the development project that will improve facilities, security and reduce unnecessary energy use at the beaches.
A feasibility study and execution of the development is the responsibility of the Regional Agency of Ambient Energy of the Algarve (AREAL), which hopes other beaches will be able to benefit from the programme in the future.
The first beach to have the lights installed will be Coelha beach in Albufeira, a popular destination of the President of the Republic, Cavaco Silva. The lights should be in operation before the summer.
