Newborn kidnapped from Faro Hospital found

Mother has been arrested

The one-month-old baby girl kidnapped from Faro Hospital by her mother last Thursday (October 26) has been found, PJ police confirmed today.

The baby and her mother were found by PJ police in the early hours of this morning hiding in a house in Faro. The newborn was taken to the hospital by INEM (National Institute of Emergency Medical Services), while the mother was arrested, along with a man who was  providing her shelter.

National press has reported that the baby had been taken from her mother after birth due to drug abuse issues.

In a statement, PJ police have confirmed that the baby was under a “precautionary protection measure” and is in the care of the Algarve University Hospital Centre (CHUA).

The baby is now under observation at Faro Hospital.

Meanwhile, the mother and the man who was providing her shelter, aged 45 and 37, will be brought before a judge tat Faro court while the investigation continues.
