The Amigos de Música December concerts will be given by Nuno Marques, the New York-based, award-winning Portuguese pianist.

Performances will be held at Os Agostos country estate, near Santa Bárbara de Nexe, on Tuesday, December 14, when Nuno will play short pieces by a variety of composers, including Scarlatti, Seixas, Vianna da Motta, Bach and Liszt, and on Thursday, December 16, when the pianist will play Bach’s Partita No.6 and Liszt’s Sonata in B Minor.

Nuno Marques is among Portugal’s most sought-after pianists of his generation. Nuno has developed an extensive, international performing career from his current base in New York City, from where he also directs Porto Pianofest.

Nuno is a very versatile musician, equally comfortable playing solo, chamber music, teaching or collaborating with other forms of artistic expression. His most recent concerts took him to renowned festivals and music halls in Europe, Asia and the US including New York’s Carnegie Hall.

He has given public masterclasses in his native Portugal, Spain, China and the USA. In the past, he has participated in a humanitarian project with young musicians from the Rohingya minority in Myanmar.

Nuno is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London where he studied with the renowned Artur Pizarro. He completed his first Master’s degree in piano performance at the Royal College of Music.

Having moved to the USA to attend New York University’s Steinhardt School, he was subsequently awarded the prestigious Reinhold Scholarship. He also holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Rutgers University.

Nuno now shares his performance activities with his role as Music Director of Stars of American Ballet, a classical dance company that brings together principal dancers and soloists from major American companies.

Nuno is passionate about travelling, literature and photography.

The Amigos de Música is an international group of around 120 members who stage musical activities by internationally renowned musicians and also sponsor young Portuguese musicians. It is a non-profit organisation and is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
