While the weather might look dodgy this morning, forecasts are ruling out rain for Portugal’s multitude of New Year parties.
It will be cold, says Madalena Rodrigues, a meteorologist at Portugal’s Sea and Atmosphere Institute (IPMA) – and there could even be the possibility of snow in high altitude areas (1200/1400 metres) but all that should leave most areas in the clear for fireworks and outdoor fun.
The Algarve is expecting maximum temperatures of 19ºC, dropping to 15ºC at night.
Lisbon and Porto are in for maximums of 15ºC and 14ºC, though temperatures could also drop to 10ºC at night.
The colder weather is due inland and in northern areas like Bragança (8ºC/4ºC) and Guarda (7ºC/4ºC).
But from New Year’s Day onwards, the picture is expected to deteriorate, with rain returning for Saturday and Sunday.
