New Year’s Eve in Madeira

CHRISTMAS IS just around the corner, so we, at PDM thought we would remind you that the Portuguese island of Madeira offers the perfect setting to celebrate the busy holiday season.

The combination of great entertainment, unforgettable food and a unique festival atmosphere makes for a prime festive destination. You can rent out a villa and soak up the atmosphere on the beaches or join the locals in watching Madeira’s famous fireworks at one of the island’s outdoor parties. The latter is the most fun, as revellers mingle in the streets and sip Poncha and Nikita cocktails.

The celebrations start at the beginning of December and carry on until Twelfth Night. Some of the highlights include the naturally-formed amphitheatre in the capital, Funchal, which is transformed into a giant crib, lit by thousands of lights placed up and down the city’s main avenues. However, the climax is really New Year’s Eve, when the skies are lit up with a world famous gigantic firework display – a great way to see in 2007.

If you would like PDM to organise your end of year trip to Madeira, be sure to get in touch soon and book early – the island fills up very quickly at this time of year.
