Portimão and Quarteira are promising “heaps of fun” for New Year’s revellers. Both towns have announced their New Year’s Eve parties, with Portimão promising a three-day celebration along the town’s riverside.
Festivities in the western Algarve town will begin on December 29 with a performance by Portuguese reggae star Richie Campbell, followed by a concert by pop singer David Fonseca on December 30.
Musical entertainment on the last night of the year will be by Brazilian group Axé Brasil and DJ Oskar, who will keep revellers dancing until 3am. All shows begin at 10pm.
As the clock strikes twelve on December 31, fireworks will shoot up into the air in Praia da Rocha, Portimão riverside and Alvor.
There will also be musical entertainment in Alvor’s riverside on New Year’s Eve.
Quarteira is another staple destination for New Year’s celebrations and is promising yet another fun-filled programme at the Praça do Mar seaside square.
Local DJ Rahim will get the party going at 9.30pm before Portuguese rock group Quinta do Bill take the stage at 10.30pm.
A musical firework display is planned for midnight before electronic music duo Karetus take the stage to keep the party going into the night.
“At a time when thousands of Portuguese and foreign tourists choose the south of Portugal for a mini holiday, Quarteira stands as one of the main destinations for New Year’s celebrations. Thus, Loulé council invests once again in a busy programme of events to appeal to all who visit us,” Loulé council said in a statement. Admission to these town parties is free.
Meanwhile, Lagoa has also announced the return of the Arade Music Fest, the popular New Year’s Eve party at Centro de Congressos do Arade, which this year will pay homage to The Beatles and feature a performance by tribute band The Bottles. Tickets: 282 380 434
