Portimão has unveiled its entertainment programme for New Year’s Eve, with the highlights being three firework shows and a performance by Brazilian musical group Pau d’Arara.
The biggest firework display will be held in Praia da Rocha, lasting eight minutes and expected to feature around 21,000 fireworks.
Other firework shows will also be held at the Portimão and Alvor riverside areas.
Portimão’s riverside will be the setting for a New Year’s party, featuring a concert by Pau d’Arara. The show begins at 11pm near the old Lota fishing market and continues until 2am.
Admission is free.
The New Year programme is organised by Portimão’s tourism association, the town hall and the Alvor and Portimão parish councils.
What else is going on?
Many other New Year’s Eve parties are planned throughout the Algarve.
Highlights include Albufeira’s traditional party in Praça dos Pescadores which will feature well-known names including Áurea and pop group D.A.M.A, while Lagos is welcoming Portugal’s most iconic rock band, Xutos e Pontapés.
