New Year celebrations at Fishermen’s Beach in Albufeira will be kicked into high gear by French DJ, Bob Sinclair.
He will be the main feature of the evening and will take to the stage, following the fireworks display, to play his most popular hits, including Love Generation, World Hold On, Rock this Party, and Give a Li’l Love from his album entitled Soundz of Freedom.
The multimedia fireworks display promises to be the best yet and, according to the câmara, the fireworks will be launched from five different locations. Prior to the display, David Fonseca will get the crowd going with music from his album, Dreams in Colour, which has already gone gold, from 10pm.
Celebrations for New Year actually begin three days prior to December 31 in Albufeira. On December 28, hip-hop group Mundo Secreto are due to perform at the marina and the following evening, December 29, the winners of the Best Portuguese Group for the second year running at the MTV Europe Music Awards, Da Weasel, will perform at Fishermen’s Beach to promote their most recent album Amor, Escárnio e Maldizer.
Portuguese artist, Pedro Abrunhosa will be the main event on December 30, where he will perform music from his most recent album, Luz, at Albufeira marina.

Over the years, New Year celebrations in Albufeira have become famous throughout Portugal and are among the most eagerly anticipated events in the music calendar. The câmara has managed to deliver top acts to the Algarve to entertain revellers at New Year. Last year’s New Year main act was Mel C and an estimated 150,000 people converged on Fishermen’s beach. This New Year promises to be just as animated as the last.
Elsewhere in the Algarve, fireworks displays are due to take place along the coast, including Vilamoura, Portimão and Lagos.
