Brave swimmers took to the cold seas on New Year’s Day to help raise money for the children of the Gaivota children’s home in Albufeira.
Swimmers left the safety of the Hotel Garbe in Armação de Pêra and took the plunge, some totally immersing themselves while others paddled in the surf during the annual charity event to raise money to buy shoes for the children.
The ‘Swim for Shoes’ took place on both Christmas Day and New Year’s Day and raised a total of 1,093 euros, which will be given directly to the home to allow the children to choose their own shoes.
