A new wind farm is to be constructed in the Malhanito area of Cachopo in the Tavira council.
Tavira Mayor Jorge Botelho told Lusa news agency: “Work on this project should start in April and represents an investment of around €70 million. The new wind farm will have 19 wind turbines.
The project has been approved by the Portuguese General Directorate for Energy and the Câmara is now working on the licensing of the land where the farm is going to be located.
The Mayor added: “This project is expected to create 20 to 30 jobs and we hope to see works finished in September.”
Meanwhile, Cachopo is also the site of a project by national electricity company REN for a high voltage platform at an investment of €60 million.
