New website launched to promote Algarve events

The new website promoting Algarve events has replaced the physical guide previously distributed at airports and tourist offices

The Algarve tourism board (RTA) has launched a new website entitled ‘Algarve Events’, designed to replace the physical guide ‘Guia Algarve’ which was printed every month and handed out at tourist offices, airports and other busy areas.

As the name suggests, the website aims to bring together key information on all of the biggest events taking place in the Algarve as well as smaller, local events.

The website is available in Portuguese and English and will be updated in real time.

It is also expected to reduce the region’s “ecological footprint” as the printing and distribution of the physical guide led to the consumption of around 21 tons of paper per year, RTA says.

Website visitors can search for events by category, date or municipality and add certain events to their calendar, a wish list or even share it on social media. They can also subscribe to a weekly newsletter which details all the highlight events.

Says RTA, the goal of a new bilingual event website is to help attract more tourists to the region all year round at a time when the “tendency of consumption patterns shows a preference for access to online content.”

“We want this new site to enrichen the array of touristic and cultural promotion instruments that are part of the Algarve brand,” says RTA president João Fernandes.

The tourism chief adds that the website allows for a quick and easy management of content and can be navigated intuitively. RTA has also made sure the website works well on mobile devices.

“This way, we hope to improve the experience of our visitors, facilitate the interaction with the destination and increase the efficiency of communication and enjoyment of spaces and events in the region,” Fernandes says.

Aljezur’s Sweet Potato Festival, Algarve’s International Organ Festival and the Sleeping Beauty ballet in Faro are some of the events taking place in November which are highlighted on the new website.
