New van for Vale Silves Community Centre

A new van was recently delivered to the Vale Silves Community Centre in Boliqueime, who desperately needed the vehicle to continue transport of the elderly and infirm plus daily food deliveries to families within the Loulé area.
The donation was only possible thanks to support from the local council, the Wolf Valley Charity and the Rotary Club Estoi Palace International (RCEPI).
The Vale Silves Community Centre provides support to the local community in various ways. Its principal objective is to assist unemployed families but its scope is wide and far reaching. The team there provide information, occupational workshops, social and cultural events, transport, youth clubs, activities for the elderly, and much more. So it relies heavily on donations to keep going.
The council committed to funding 50% but needed help with the remaining 50%. The Wolf Valley Charity stepped in with an offer of assistance and asked RCEPI if it would also like to contribute.
The Wolf Valley Charity is helping the Rotary Clubs of the Algarve to purchase a new mobile breast screening unit for the Algarve Oncology Association.
In the spirit of working together with other charities to assist in the local community, RCEPI was only too pleased to to join them on the Vale Silves project.
The van was handed over last week by the Wolf Valley Charity President Paulo Chaves and Treasurer Graham Miller along with President Elect Jim Ditheridge and Chair of the International Committee Shirley Dunne from RCEPI.

Charity tribute concert
Meanwhile, a Bob Dylan tribute concert is being organised by RCEPI at Cineteatro of São Brás de Alportel on May 20, to support not only Rotarian charities but also a local elderly people’s home. It needs special equipment to deliver hot food around the area of Estoi and São Brás.
Artists Boris Buggerov and Guillermo Martins will perform a repertoire of Bob Dylan songs. Rattle ‘n’ Strum will be supporting and there will also be a few other surprises along the way.
Doors open at 7pm for the concert at 8pm. Tickets cost €12. For tickets call 914230732 or email [email protected]
