New, more modern Comboios de Portugal (CP) trains with sliding doors and air-conditioning are now running on the Vila Real de Santo António to Faro section of the rail network.
Residents aged over 65 get half price travel by showing their passport at the ticket office.
The reduction applies to all rail journeys in Portugal.
